How it works
Brightness shifts pixel luminosity. Contrast spreads the tone curve. Saturation adjusts color intensity. Sharpness applies an unsharp mask convolution. Temperature adds warmth (red) or coolness (blue). Upscale uses high-quality canvas resampling.
All processing runs locally: no image data is uploaded.
Improve Photo Quality and Upscale Images: All Processing in Your Browser
Cloud-based image enhancement tools send your photos to remote AI servers, which means latency, privacy exposure, and often a subscription fee. AlteredIdea's enhancer applies the same core adjustments: brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, white balance and resolution scaling: directly in your browser using fast pixel-level operations on the HTML Canvas API. You see changes in under half a second as you drag any slider.
The one-click Auto Enhance button applies a pre-calibrated set of adjustments that lift a typical underexposed or flat-looking photo without going over the top. From there you can fine-tune each parameter individually, toggle a 2× upscale, or compare against the original at any time. The final download is a high-quality JPEG ready for social media, print, or further editing.
How to use: step by step
- 1Upload your photo
Drag and drop or click to select any image. JPEG, PNG and WebP are all supported. - 2Try Auto Enhance first
Click the '✨ Auto Enhance' button for a pre-tuned combination of brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness that works well for most photos. - 3Fine-tune the sliders
Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness and color temperature individually. The preview updates automatically within 300 ms of each change. - 4Toggle 2× Upscale
Enable 'Upscale 2×' to double the output dimensions using high-quality canvas resampling: useful for small source images. - 5Compare and download
Use the 'Show original' toggle to compare before and after, then click 'Download Enhanced' to save the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the image get uploaded to a server for enhancement?
- No. All processing: brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, temperature, and upscaling: runs entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API and raw pixel manipulation. Nothing leaves your device.
- How does the 2× upscale work?
- The Canvas API draws your image at double the original dimensions with high-quality bicubic-style interpolation enabled. This softens pixelation but cannot recover detail that was not in the source: it is best used with the sharpness slider to partially compensate.
- What does the Auto Enhance preset do?
- It applies a pre-tested combination: +8 brightness, +15 contrast, 115% saturation, 0.8 sharpness, and +5 temperature. These values work well for average indoor or outdoor photographs.
- Can I use the enhancer for RAW photos?
- The tool accepts formats the browser can decode natively (JPEG, PNG, WebP). RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW etc.) need to be converted first.
- Why does my photo look grainy after sharpening?
- Sharpening amplifies existing noise. Try increasing sharpness to 1–1.5 maximum. If the photo has significant noise, keep sharpness low and rely on contrast for perceived clarity instead.
- What does the temperature slider do?
- It shifts the white balance of the image. Positive values add warmth (red/yellow tones), negative values add coolness (blue tones). Use it to correct photos shot under mixed lighting or to set a mood.
- Will enhancing the image increase its file size?
- The tool exports as JPEG at 93% quality. Enhanced images are typically similar in size to the original. Upscaled images will be larger because of the increased pixel count.
- Is the tool free?
- Completely free, no account needed, no usage limit. All computation happens locally in your browser.
