Crop & Flip

Crop to preset aspect ratios or custom dimensions, flip horizontally or vertically, and rotate in 90° increments.

All processing runs locally: no files are uploaded.

Crop, Flip and Rotate Any Photo Instantly: No Upload Required

Cropping a photo seems simple, but most online tools require you to upload your image to a remote server before anything happens. That means waiting for an upload, waiting for processing, and trusting a third party with your picture. AlteredIdea's crop tool does the entire job inside your browser: the moment you drop an image, you get an interactive crop overlay you can adjust in real time, with the result available in under a second.

Choose from eight preset aspect ratios or go freeform. Combine cropping with 90-degree rotation and horizontal/vertical flipping so you can fix a landscape photo that was shot sideways and remove dead space in a single operation. The output quality slider lets you balance file size against sharpness. The rendered result is saved to your device: nothing is ever transmitted to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
The crop region is defined as a percentage of the original image, so the output pixel size depends on your source dimensions. For precise pixel outputs, crop first and then use the Resize tool to set exact dimensions.
Which aspect ratios are available?
Free (unconstrained), 1:1 (square), 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2, and 2:3. These cover social media posts, profile pictures, video thumbnails, and portrait prints.
Does the tool upload my images?
No. All cropping, flipping and rotating happens in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device.
What output quality does the crop produce?
You can set the output quality (50–100%) via the slider. PNG inputs are saved as PNG (lossless); all other formats are saved as JPEG at the quality you choose.
Can I flip an image before cropping?
Yes. Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical are applied at render time together with the crop and rotation, so you can combine all transforms in a single pass.
How accurate is the crop region?
The crop sliders operate on percentages. For a 4000×3000 image a 1% change in the width slider corresponds to 40 pixels. Use fine slider adjustments or type a precise percentage for accuracy.
Is the original image modified?
No. The original file you uploaded is never altered. The tool reads it, applies the transforms in memory, and produces a new output file for download.
Is this tool free?
Completely free, no account required, and no limit on usage. All processing is browser-native so there are no server costs to pass on.
