Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF uploaded when I sign it online?

No. Everything happens in your browser. PDF.js renders the document, your signature is drawn on an HTML canvas, and pdf-lib embeds it into the PDF: all locally without any server communication.

Is a drawn signature legally binding?

In many jurisdictions an electronic signature, including a drawn signature applied to a PDF, is legally equivalent to a handwritten one under laws like the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation. Check the specific requirements for your jurisdiction and document type.

Can I type my signature instead of drawing it?

Yes. The signature tool includes a type mode where you enter your name and it is rendered in a cursive or handwriting-style font. You can then place this as your signature on the document.

Can I upload an image of my handwritten signature?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPEG image of your signature (ideally with a transparent or white background) and the tool will let you place and resize it on any page.

Will the signature appear as a flat image or an annotation?

The signature is flattened into the page content using pdf-lib, meaning it is embedded as part of the page rather than as a separate removable annotation. This is more secure and displays correctly in all PDF readers.

Can I sign a multi-page document?

Yes. Navigate between pages using the page controls and add your signature to each page that requires one. The final PDF includes all pages with signatures applied.

What if I make a mistake placing the signature?

Use the undo or clear button to remove the signature and start over. You can reposition and resize the signature before saving the final PDF.

Does this create a certified or timestamped signature?

This tool creates a visual electronic signature. It does not create a cryptographic digital signature with a certificate authority timestamp. For legally certified signatures requiring PKI certificates, use a dedicated e-signature platform.

Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

Password-protected PDFs cannot be signed without first removing the protection. Use the PDF password remover tool to unlock the document, then apply your signature.
