Overview
AlteredIdea (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website at alteredidea.com. This policy describes what information we collect when you use our platform, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.
The short version: most tools on AlteredIdea process files and data entirely within your browser. We do not receive your documents, images, or files. The information we do collect is limited to what is necessary to operate the service and is described in detail below.
1. Data we do not collect
The following types of data are processed entirely within your browser and are never transmitted to our servers:
- ✓Files you upload to any tool (PDFs, images, documents, spreadsheets)
- ✓Text you type into tool input fields
- ✓Passwords or cryptographic keys you generate or test
- ✓Form data processed by document and generator tools
- ✓Images processed by the background remover, format converter, or compressor
2. Data we do collect
2.1 Server logs
Our web servers automatically record standard access logs when you visit any page. These logs include your IP address, the page requested, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and the date and time of the request. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and diagnostics purposes and are not used for advertising or profiling.
2.2 Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage patterns: which tools are used most, which pages people visit, and general geographic distribution. Google Analytics collects anonymised data including page views, session duration, device type, and approximate location derived from IP address. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individuals. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
2.3 Advertising
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve personalised ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can control personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
2.4 Workspace accounts
If you create a Workspace account, we collect your name, email address, and hashed password. Email addresses are used only for account authentication and essential service communications. We do not send marketing emails without explicit opt-in. Account data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway infrastructure.
2.5 Cookies
We use cookies for the following purposes: authentication (to keep you signed in to your Workspace account), preference storage (such as your chosen theme), and analytics (Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish sessions). We do not use cookies to track you across third-party websites for advertising purposes beyond what Google AdSense uses by default.
3. How we use data
The data we collect is used to operate and improve the platform, serve relevant advertisements through Google AdSense, diagnose technical problems, and where required, comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal data to any third party.
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services that may process data when you use our platform:
- Google Analytics 4: anonymised usage analytics
- Google AdSense: advertising
- Railway: cloud hosting and database infrastructure
- Resend: transactional email delivery for account notifications
Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
5. Data retention
Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics retention settings (default 14 months). Workspace account data is retained until you delete your account. We delete account data within 30 days of a deletion request.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are in California, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
7. Children's privacy
AlteredIdea is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
