Write FRDs, SRS documents, and technical specs: with templates and one-click export

Creating a Functional Requirements Document or Software Requirements Specification from scratch takes time even before you write a word: just getting the structure right requires knowing the conventions. This editor removes that friction with pre-built templates for the most common documentation formats used in product and engineering teams.

The editor runs entirely in your browser with no login, no cloud storage, and no file uploads. Your content auto-saves locally so you can return to it at any time. When you are done, export to a proper DOCX file for sharing with stakeholders who need to edit it in Word, or to PDF for a clean read-only version.

How to use the document editor

  1. 1
    Choose a template
Select from Blank, FRD, SRS, Technical Specification, or Meeting Notes. The template loads a pre-structured document with all standard sections filled in.
  2. 2
    Edit your document title
Replace 'Untitled Document' with your document name. This title appears in the exported DOCX and PDF file name.
  3. 3
    Format with the toolbar
Use the toolbar to apply headings (H1–H3), bold, italic, underline, bullet lists, numbered lists, alignment, and indentation. Standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U) all work.
  4. 4
    Write and auto-save
Type in the white document area. Your content is automatically saved to your browser's local storage every 1.5 seconds: so if you close the tab, your work is preserved.
  5. 5
    Export to DOCX or PDF
Click Export DOCX to download a fully editable Word document. Click Export PDF to download a PDF with your document's exact formatting. Both run entirely in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my document saved anywhere?
No. Your document is saved only to your browser's local storage: it never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data will erase it, so export a copy if you need to keep it.
What templates are available?
Five templates: Blank, FRD (Functional Requirements Document), SRS (Software Requirements Specification), Technical Specification, and Meeting Notes. Each comes pre-structured with all standard sections.
Can I open an existing DOCX file?
The editor currently creates new documents. To edit an existing file, use the Doc → PPT or Report Builder tools which support file imports.
How accurate is the DOCX export?
The DOCX export maps headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, underline, bullet lists, and numbered lists to native Word formatting. Complex layouts (tables, inline images) are not yet supported.
Will my formatting survive in the PDF export?
Yes. The PDF export captures the editor as a rendered image, so what you see is exactly what you get. It supports multi-page output automatically.
Do keyboard shortcuts work?
Yes: Ctrl+B (bold), Ctrl+I (italic), Ctrl+U (underline), Ctrl+Z (undo), Ctrl+Y (redo) all work natively inside the editor.
Can I use this for formal documents?
Yes. The FRD and SRS templates follow standard IEEE and industry conventions. Export to DOCX and continue editing in Word for final formatting polish.
