Free browser-based AI prompt library to save and reuse your best ChatGPT prompts

Rebuilding the same prompt from scratch every time you open ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini is a significant time drain. The AI Prompt Library on AlteredIdea lets you save, tag, search, and copy any prompt in seconds: all stored locally in your browser with no account, no cloud sync, and no data leaving your device. It ships with a set of pre-built starter prompts covering the most common AI tasks, from professional email rewriting to code review and meeting summarization.

The library is designed for power users who have invested time crafting high-quality prompts and want to protect that investment. Template variables using the {{variable}} syntax let you write prompts once and adapt them with different inputs each time. Tags and full-text search make it easy to find the right prompt in a growing collection, while the duplicate and edit workflow lets you iterate on existing prompts without starting over.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1
    Browse the starter prompts

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are my prompts stored?
All prompts are stored in your browser's localStorage. They persist between sessions on the same device and browser, but are not synced across devices or backed up to a server. Your data never leaves your machine.
What are the starter prompts?
The library ships with four built-in prompts: Professional Email Rewriter, Code Reviewer, Meeting Notes Summarizer, and Explain Like I'm 5. These cover common everyday use cases and serve as examples of good prompt structure.
How do template variables work?
Use {{variable_name}} syntax in your prompt content. When you expand a prompt, you can see all the variable placeholders. Fill them in before copying, or use the Prompt Builder tool for a full variable-filling interface.
Can I export my prompt library?
Currently, prompts are stored in localStorage. You can manually export them by copying individual prompts. A bulk export feature is planned for a future update.
What is the best model for each prompt?
Each prompt has an optional 'Best for model' field. This is informational only: it helps you remember which AI tool gave the best results for that specific prompt. Common values are GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, or Any.
How many prompts can I save?
There is no hard limit imposed by the tool. Browser localStorage typically supports 5-10 MB of data, which is enough for thousands of prompts. Very large prompt collections may hit browser storage limits.
Can I use this for team prompt sharing?
The current version is single-user, browser-based storage. For team sharing, copy prompts to a shared document or use the Prompt Builder to export formatted prompts your team can import into their preferred tools.
What types of AI tasks work best with saved prompts?
Prompts you use repeatedly are the best candidates to save: email rewrites, code review templates, meeting summaries, content briefs, and SEO outlines. Saving these saves time and ensures consistency across your AI-assisted work.
Will my prompts survive clearing browser cache?
Clearing browser cache does not delete localStorage. However, clearing site data or using private/incognito mode will remove stored prompts. For important prompts, back them up by copying to a notes app or document.
